Providence's Perpetuation Provisions: Surprise Twelfth 2015 Chick Hatching

One afternoon, I was looking east out toward our chicken pen area and saw a hen with some little birds around her. My first thought was that some small wild birds were just hanging around her, but then thought, "Wait a minute....I wonder...." And sure enough, it was a mama hen with three little chicks in tow!

It always amazes me how a hen makes it out in the woods for three weeks sitting on eggs with hazardous critters running around to end up hatching some out. God knows though. :)

And so, we rounded them up and put them in the piano room, and they're all three still healthy today!

Here they are:

Surprise Twelfth Hatching of 2015 Chicks

And their video:

We are grateful to the Lord for granting this bonus hatching, His watchful eye on them the three weeks in the wild, and His continued granting of their health and safety!

Oh my goodness we had something similiar happen here on our farmstead... My son come running down the stairs saying there were babies.. now mind you living out where we were could mean anything. I asked him where and he responded by the coop... When he said that I knew that only meant one thing.. CHICKS! After wrestling up the Little Ones we be bopped out doors and sure enough as pumpkin pie warms my belly.. There was one of our Cuckoo Marran Hen fiercely protecting 14 chicks. What a blessed sight it was.. For in all the 4 years we been here, losing our chickens to predators has been nill(Praise the LoRd) well that was until this past Summer I noticed our flock dwindling quite rappidly.. Come to find out our new neighbors that just moved in two dogs had been coming over and killing them. We woulddt have known until one morning our dogs were barking mad outside and I happen to look out and sure enough.. there was the neighbors dog.. Anyhow to not make this story lengthy.. The blessing of the chicks was just that a blessing. Now mind you we have since lost about 6 of them chicks.. but just the same I am still thrilled each time I go out and see the other ones that are still with us.. just hanging out and following their momma.. which by the way isnt it amazing how INSTINCTIVELY animals know how to care and teach their young and very protective of them they are.. Makes me think of our Heavenly Father and how much He loves us so and will move heaven and Earth to be there for us all the step of the way.. But then it also says alot of how much it must break HIS heart when we cant stay under that protection.. or we cant even care the same way to our own babies and fellow "man"

Hi Ms. Jeannie,

Sorry to hear about the neighbor's dogs getting your chickens, but thanks to the Lord for the ones He has granted to continue with you.

The Bible says man indeed can be worse than the animals:

Isa 1:3 - "The ox knoweth his owner, and the ass his master's crib: but Israel doth not know, my people doth not consider."

Jer 8:7 - "Yea, the stork in the heaven knoweth her appointed times; and the turtle and the crane and the swallow observe the time of their coming; but my people know not the judgment of the Lord."

John Owen in his complete works, vol 3 on the Holy Spirit, likens the new man of a Christian to a spiritual "habit," almost like an instinct toward God. May He grant us that so we do not wander but do strive for and toward Him constantly.

So glad to see mama hen returning with her chicks to the homestead. I know it is a lesson to all of us. We try to control everything in life sometimes, instead of just trusting in the Lord for His Provision, and being grateful. I am praying that my babies that are out in the world will return safely again, just like those baby chicks.

Thanks so much for sharing your life with us. It is a blessing.

Amen, bayougirl.

Chickens are prone to wander away from the flock, off by themselves, making them more easy targets for a hawk or otherwise. Sadly, we can be that way too, and thus with less protection against our enemies (our own sin/flesh/carnal man, Satan, the world, anitchrist, reviling professing Christians, etc.)

May we cling to the body of Christ, because it is of Christ.
